Lucy Gough
-
Lucy Gough is an artist and collagist who uses simple graphic lines and bold colour blocks to form abstract works that are intended to illustrate processes and behaviours.
Screen printing blocks of considered colours, Lucy carefully arranges paper cut outs, playfully balancing shape, colour and form which combine to create unique compositions.
-
She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally and has completed commissions for institutions including Soho House, University College Hospital London and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Her screen prints have been selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2012, 2016, 2018 and 2021.
Lucy’s artwork is available as one-off paper cut collages, and limited edition screen prints.

What has been a stand out exhibition for inspiration?
‘Josef Albers in Mexico’. Part of the Peggy Gugenheim Collection at the Venice Biennale 2018. His paintings are so simple, with such beautiful colours and balanced compositions
-
What's the project you're most proud of?
I was commissioned by Soho House to design a bespoke rug for their White City House. It was based on the TV test card and referenced its distinctive shapes and CMYK colour palette
-
What's the one thing in the art industry that's not talked about, which you think should be?
How to price your artwork
-
What would your alternative career be?
Growing up I always wanted to be an interior designer but now I’d say art therapist, florist or gardener
Quick fire 10: objects of desire
-
Your go-to tea/coffee mug is…
My house mug is a little white enamel cup with beautiful cobalt, coral and dusty pink paint splats.
My studio choice is a Leach Pottery stoneware mug
-
The object that holds the most sentimental value to you is…
My Granny's nut brown ceramic rolling pin. I am constantly worrying it will roll off the side and break, and should probably elevate it to 'display only’!
-
The teenage object of your affection was…
My sun, moon and stars throw blanket...forgive me, it was the 90s
-
The most beautiful object you possess is…
My engagement ring. It is a dark coloured sapphire, surrounded by diamonds, circa 1950, and was from Portobello Road Market
-
Your most treasured second-hand or thrifted find is…
A vintage wooden sledge with cobalt blue metal runners from an antique shop. The best £15 I've spent!
-
The building that takes your breath away is…
I am always in awe of St Pauls Cathedral. My husband proposed to me there too, so it has a special place in my heart
-
My favourite independent shop is…
Lift, in Southwold, Suffolk. Stationery, super stylish products, and so much more. My go to shop for gifts and a little treat for myself from time to time
-
Money is no object. The artwork you would most like to own is…
Curveball, but I would choose a Caravaggio. His paintings are truly beautiful and so evocative and distinctive. I am in complete awe of his supreme talent
-
The house is on fire. The one object you grab on the way out is..
My photo albums, which are irreplaceable. As a child I loved taking photos but I rarely print them out nowadays. I will make a concerted effort to do so from now on!

Every home must have..
Laughter! If the last few years have taught us anything it is that life is too short to be serious
